On the morning of November 26, the opening ceremony of the 14^th Henan University "Golden Cup" Mathematical Culture Festival kicked off.

The ceremony was attended by Wenjun ZHANG, an outstanding alumnus of Henan University in the Class of 1983 and professor of Shenzhen University, Shuxia FENG, Vice President of Henan University, as well as teachers and student representatives. The ceremony was held online and offline.

At the opening ceremony, Shuxia FENG delivered a speech. She encouraged students to actively join in the festival and learn more about math such as the history and significant figures, to contribute to the spreading of mathematics culture.

Wenjun ZHANG gave a report titled “Examples of the Intellectual and Interesting Use of Mathematics” online. He introduced nine examples related to life, management and magical cases, such as lottery, dating, election, and mind guessing, through which he explained the theory and practical value of math.

The Mathematics Culture Festival will last for one month. During the period, a series of activities will be launched, such as the Writing Competition by Pen, Brush and Chalk, Mathematics Cultural and Creative Activity, Mathematics Self-study Room, and Interesting Knowledge Contest, to help students observe the world from a mathematical perspective and feel the charm of mathematics.
