On the morning of September 5, Henan University (HENU) held the opening ceremony for the 2022 freshmen online and offline. The ceremony, presided over by Vice President Zhen Tan, invited the University leaders, namely Keping Lu, Suojiang Zhang, Zhen Tan, Baoming Zhang, Bo Ji, Shaokang Xu, Gongqi Sun, Chaoyang Yang, Shuxia Feng, Shenglei Fu, Lixin Zhang, and the heads of related functional departments, as well as representatives of teachers and students to attend. At the same time, leaders and counselors in colleges and schools, as well as 2022 undergraduate and postgraduate freshmen joined in the ceremony online.

At the ceremony, Ke Chen, professor at the School of Physics and Electronics, delivered a speech as a representative of teachers. He encouraged students to be independent thinkers and tireless learners, and to make most use of their time in the University, so as to gain achievements for themselves and for the University.

Then Shuaiyu Zhao, an undergraduate in Ideological and Political Education at School of Maxism from the Class of 2020, gave a speech on behalf of senior students, by which he shared his experience and insights of his campus life.

After that, Yifan Wang, a graduate student in Computer Science and Technology of the School of Computer and Information Engineering from the Class of 2022, spoke as the representative of freshmen. Wang promised to be committed to the University's motto that motivates every student to become an outstanding one of HENU.

President Suojiang Zhang gave sincere suggestions to students by telling stories of famous people around the world and proposed three visions as a principal, a teacher and a senior. Firstly, he expected them to have lofty ideals and nurture the wish to serve the society and its people. Secondly, they shall have a systemic knowledge of courses and learn actively. Thirdly, they shall be of great virtue and improve themselves in every aspect rather than in knowledge alone. At the end of the speech, Suojiang Zhang reminded students to take care of themselves especially in the middle of the deadly pandemic and to adhere to the pandemic prevention and control.
