International Distinguished Lectures held successfully



In order to expand the international academic vision of teachers and students, actively track the research frontier and create a good academic atmosphere, Javier Pérez-Guerra, a professor of Universidad de Vigo, was invited to deliver 5 lectures to teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages as part of the “The 2nd International Academic Linguistics Seminar (IALS-2) and International Distinguished Lectures (IDL-2021) ”, which were held by School of Foreign Languages.


On May 3rd, Prof. Javier Pérez-Guerra delivered the first lecture entitled “Research-project design: data, statistics, visualisation and interpretation” to nearly 300 teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages via Tencent Meeting. And the lecture was hosted by Chaojun Yang, Dean of School of Foreign Languages.


In the course of this lecture, Prof. Javier Pérez-Guerra systematically introduced 3 core elements of Research Design (RD): data collection, statistical analysis, visualization and its interpretation. And he mainly recommended R language statistics software, from which multiple correspondence analysis, correlation statistics, cluster analysis, conditional inference decision tree and random forest analysis could be applied in visualization. Prof. Javier Pérez-Guerra’s thought-provoking lecture offered us the penetrating and insightful ideas in Research Design (RD). His passion, humor and experiences sparked students’ interests in RD and its applications in various areas.
