Recently, the list of winners of MCM/ICM was announced, and student teams from Miami College of Henan University won two F awards, one H award, and two S awards. Among them, Runkai Zhang’s and Zegun Hu’s team, won the F Prizes of the Competition (nominated for the Grand Prize, with only 0.17% winning rate).
MCM/ICM is sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application. It is the only international and the most influential mathematical competition in modeling globally. The competition covers a wide range of fields, such as economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, and security. It requires a team of three (undergraduate) students to complete all the work from modeling, solving, and verification to writing a paper on a specified problem in four days, focusing on the candidates' ability to research and solve problems and teamwork. This competition is known as the originator of all kinds of mathematical modeling competitions today.
MCM/ICM provides a realistic assessment of students' abilities in innovative thinking, creativeness, teamwork and the ability to solve practical problems. It has a positive effect on improving students' comprehensive ability to build mathematical models and use computer technology to solve practical problems. The excellent results achieved by the students from the College in this competition are a reflection of the great importance the college has attached to the work of discipline competition in recent years. In the future, the college will continue to use the subject competition as a carrier to deepen the curriculum teaching reform, strengthen the construction of the programme, and effectively improve the quality of the talents cultivated by the subject.
