On the afternoon of September 28th, Academician Chen Jianping from Chinese Academy of Engineering gave an inspirational report on “Going for Excellence and Success” for more than 200 graduate students of the State Key Laboratory of HENU in the Conference Hall 249 of the Administration Building. Dong Qian, a well-known compere of CCTV, and Professor Wang Chunlin, Executive Dean of the School of Marine Sciences, Ningbo University, attended the report. Miao Yuchen, the project leader of the State Key Laboratory and the director of the Department of Disciplinary Development, presided over the conference.

Starting from his own life and research experience, Chen’s report unfolded from the following aspects closely related to students: establishing ideals and conviction, cultivating ideal personality, four realms of learning, choosing the research field, focusing on research priorities, and how to keep up with the times and to innovate, etc. Chen also heartened everyone to be ambitious, to build consummate personality and to cultivate lofty selfhood. And more importantly, be a leader, not a follower!

After Academician Chen's report, Dong Qian gave a short speech. In her speech, by sharing her interview experience, she encouraged everyone to study and work hard for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In the nearly two-hour lecture, the graduate students present attentively listened to the lecture and actively communicated with the outstanding guests. They said this lecture enhanced their sense of mission and inspired their enthusiasm for learning and research.

President Chun-Peng Song and Vice President Wang Xuelu met with Academician Chen and exchanged views on discipline development. Academician Chen and his delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Adaptation and Improvement of HENU, jointly established by Henan Province and the Ministry of Education.
