From October 25 to 26, the 2025 Academic Annual Conference of the Professional Committee for Basic Education Evaluation of The Chinese Society of Education was successfully held at Henan University (HENU)’s Longzihu Campus in Zhengzhou. Under the theme “Reform and Innovation of Basic Education Evaluation in the Context of Building a Strong Education System”, the conference attracted over 300 experts and scholars from domestic and international institutions including Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and Syracuse University in the United States.

At the opening ceremony, ZHANG Xiangdong, Vice President of HENU, delivered a speech in which he introduced HENU’s distinctive achievements in areas such as intelligent evaluation and comprehensive quality assessment. These results were driven by leveraging platforms such as the Ministry of Education’s Education Evaluation Reform Research Base to integrate education with technologies like artificial intelligence and big data.

NIE Shizhong, Level-2 Inspector of the Education Department of Henan Province, elaborated on the practical pathways adopted by Henan to advance the reform of basic education evaluation. These include developing a localized evaluation framework, prioritizing reforms in key areas, and strengthening research support to enhance the scientific rigor of evaluation.

Professor XIN Tao from Beijing Normal University emphasized that education evaluation should embrace a new era of mission. He called for focused efforts on critical domains, deeper theoretical research, and joint efforts to construct an education evaluation system with Chinese characteristics.

During the thematic seminar sessions, multiple experts and scholars exchanged views on topics such as the “integration of learning and assessment”, assessment for learning advancement, artificial intelligence and evaluation development, and practical pathways for evaluation reform. Six parallel forums systematically addressed key areas including curriculum and teaching, student development, teacher growth, school governance, regional quality evaluation, and the application of digital and intelligent technologies.

In the concluding remarks, Professor LIU Zhijun from HENU stressed that professionals in education evaluation should strengthen their sense of mission, adhere to a problem-oriented and innovation-driven approach, and continuously promote breakthroughs in evaluation reform to contribute to the building of a strong education system.

The annual conference was organized by the Professional Committee for Basic Education Evaluation of The Chinese Society of Education and co-hosted by the Faculty of Education of HENU and related research platforms.
