From April 26 to 27, the National Young Scholars Forum titled "Interdisciplinary Development of Humanistic Semantics for the Future: Discourse Interpretation and Historical Narrative in the AI Era" was held at Zhengzhou Longzihu Campus of Henan University (HENU). The forum gathered over 30 experts and scholars from dozens of universities and research institutions nationwide, including Professor Sun Jiang from the University of Macau and Professor Ma Jianbiao from Fudan University, to engage in dialogues and exchanges on discourse interpretation and historical narrative in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
The forum featured a full schedule and substantive content. The opening ceremony on the morning of April 27 was chaired by Ding Yihu, Vice Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Yang Mengya, Deputy Secretary of the CPC HENU Committee, addressed AI's growing impact on humanities and social sciences. He highlighted HENU's commitment to interdisciplinary development, particularly in advancing humanistic semantics for academic innovation and talent cultivation. Professor Min Xiangpeng, Vice Dean of the School of History and Culture, noted that the forum would explore new paths and methods for research in humanities and social sciences. He hoped that experts and scholars could engage in fruitful exchanges.
During the keynote session, seven distinguished scholars including Professor Zhang Baoming, Dean of HENU's Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science, Professor Sun Jiang, Director of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau, and Professor Xie Naihe from the School of History and Culture at the Northeast Normal University, delivered presentations on topics such as "The Mission and Responsibility of Humanistic Semantics in the AI Era" and "Reinterpretation of the Crisis of Historiography in the AI Era" from multidisciplinary perspectives.
On the afternoon of April 27, two sub-forums were arranged: Artificial Intelligence and Discourse Interpretation, and Historical Narrative and Interdisciplinary Semantics. Young scholars from history, literature, philosophy, and related fields engaged in vigorous discussions on opportunities and challenges for humanistic semantics in the AI age. They explored how to integrate AI technologies with humanistic studies from text mining and sentiment analysis, providing new perspectives for discourse interpretation and historical narrative. In addition, scholars also discussed interdisciplinary system construction and talent training models and proposed some constructive suggestions.
Professor Min Xiangpeng chaired the closing ceremony, during which Professor Wang Rui delivered concluding remarks. They summarized the forum's key insights and outcomes and outlined future directions for humanistic semantics. They emphasized the urgent need to reinterpret discourse and reconstruct historical narrative in the AI era. HENU's Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science is committed to the development of this discipline. This forum aimed to drive academic exchanges and cooperation and provide platforms for young scholars to explore the development of humanistic semantics in the AI era.
