On July 24, the inauguration ceremony for the School of Translation & Interpreting Henan University took place in Minglun Campus. The event was attended by Fachun Chen, President of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Vice Chairman of the ELT Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, as well as Vice President of the Translators Association of China, Longhai Zhang, Vice President of Minnan Normal University and member of the ELT Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, Hongqi Ma, Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Studies at Nankai University, Yaxing Guo, Deputy Director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation at the Culture and Tourism Department of Henan Province, Xiul Xui, Director of the Elephant International Communication Center (EICC) at Henan Broadcasting System, and  Xiaojuan Zhai, General Manager of Zhengzhou Yixiantong Translation Co., Ltd. The ceremony was also attended by Yuchen Miao, Vice President of Henan University, heads of relevant functional departments, leaders from brother institutions’ foreign language faculties, and all leadership, faculty members and student representatives from the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Translation & Interpreting at Henan University.

Firstly, Yuchen Miao delivered a welcome speech, introducing the development and profound heritage of the foreign language disciplines at Henan University. He stated that the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Translation & Interpreting are advancing together in a complementary manner to promote the development of foreign language disciplines, earnestly requesting scholars from all over the world and experts from various fields to generously offer their guidance.

Fachun Chen warmly congratulated the establishment of the School of Translation & Interpreting. He believed that the school will undoubtedly cultivate more high-level translation talents proficient in multiple languages, with a global perspective and cross-cultural capabilities, serving the strategic development needs of the nation and the opening up of the Central Plains.

Longhai Zhang expressed his congratulations on the founding of the School of Translation & Interpreting. He suggested that the field of foreign languages, especially translation, should open up new ideas in cooperation between humans and machines, artificial intelligence research and management and providing higher-end language services, actively seeking the future.

Xiuli Xu shared updates on the Elephant International Communication Center of Henan Broadcasting System, indicating that the center and the School of Translation & Interpreting at Henan University will work hand in hand to contribute to the international communication endeavor and the training of compound translation talents.

Jinghui Zhang, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Translation & Interpreting, welcomed the leaders and guests attending the ceremony. She spoke around the motto of the School of Foreign Languages "Sapere Aude" (Dare to Know), stating that individuals should not be confined to technical aspects but should have a “Daoist” perspective, daring to break through, to know, and to advance.

Subsequently, Fachun Chen, Yuchen Miao, Longhai Zhang, Hongqi Ma, Xiuli Xu and Yaxing Guo jointly unveiled the School of Translation & Interpreting.

Following this, Yan Xiao, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, presented advisory expert appointment letters to Xiuli Xu, Yaxing Guo and Xiaojuan Zhai.
