On December 24, the Yellow River Basin Scientific Data Opening and Sharing Alliance Establishment & Academic Seminar was held online with the theme of "Opening and Sharing of Scientific Data in the Yellow River Basin", sponsored by the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environmental Resources of CAS, Henan University, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Yellow River Laboratory. More than 500 representatives from more than 60 units in China attended the conference. The conference was attended by Jian Zheng, deputy director of the Basic Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Jing Su, director of the platform of the National Science & Technology Infrastructure, Dejin Zhou, director of the Bureau of the Science Communication of CAS, Haiyan Zhou, deputy director of the Yellow River Conservancy Commission of Water Resources, and Jiaofeng Pan, director of the Institute of Science and Development of CAS. It also invited academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences including Guodong Cheng, Dahe Qin, Yuanming Lai, and Suojiang Zhang who is also the president of Henan University, and academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering including Jiayao Wang, Jiulin Sun, Fuming Wang, Renzhong Guo and Qi Feng, as well as Academician Yaolin Liu from the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Yaonan Zhang, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. At the conference, Jian Zheng and Jing Su delivered speeches in which they expressed congratulations to the establishment of the Yellow River Basin Scientific Data Opening and Sharing Alliance and put forward valuable suggestions for the opening and sharing of scientific data in the Yellow River Basin. Subsequently, Academician Jiayao Wang, on behalf of the preparatory group, announced the establishment of the Yellow River Basin Scientific Data Opening and Sharing Alliance. He then gave a detailed introduction to the Alliance's background, goals, and operation concepts. Later, academicians including Guodong Cheng, Jiulin Sun, Dahe Qin and Yuanming Lai put forward opinions on the development of the Alliance.

Suojiang Zhang delivered a speech to express his gratitude to the leaders and experts for their long-term support and assistance to Henan University. He said that Henan University would continue to strengthen scientific research of the Yellow River Basin, actively support the Alliance in scientific data sharing, and champion the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin to serve the significant needs of China.

Afterwards, academicians including Renzhong Guo, Fuming Wang, Qi Feng and Yaolin Liu gave reports on the digital twin of the geographical environment, the construction of the “Bestdr Infrastructure Hospital”, as well as the construction of the Qilian Mountain National Park & the evolution of the spatial and temporal pattern of land use in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the coordinated regional development. More than ten experts from the platform of the National Science & Technology Infrastructure, the National Cryosphere Desert Data Center, Beijing Forestry University, and the Institute of Oceanology of CAS, conducted in-depth discussions on the management and sharing services of scientific data in the Yellow River Basin, and the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River.
