Hao Li, deputy dean of School of Agricultural Sciences, made suggestions at the video conference between Henan Province and Trinidad and Tobago

 


On July 15, a video conference on exchanges and cooperation between Henan Province and Trinidad and Tobago was held under the organization of the Henan Foreign Affairs Office. The conference invited Lichun Zhou, counselor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to attend. The participants also included representatives of scientific research institutions, government agencies and enterprises like Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, China Agricultural University and Henan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The conference was chaired by Di Liu, deputy director of the European and American Division of the Henan Foreign Affairs Office. It also invited Yuhui Cao, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Agricultural Sciences, and Hao Li, deputy dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences.


Lichun Zhou expressed his thanks to the Henan Foreign Affairs Office for its organization and the active response of the participants. He said that Trinidad and Tobago is one of the fastest-growing economies in the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago and China have a long history of friendly exchanges, and the two entities enjoy a profound friendship. In politics, the two countries have frequent high-level exchanges, deeper exchanges in parliaments, political parties and other fields. Both countries have enhanced political mutual trust, maintained a smooth communication in essential international and regional affairs, and have given support on issues involving the core interests. This conference was to promote the pragmatic cooperation between Henan Province and Trinidad and Tobago in the fields of agriculture, economy and trade, and scientific research to benefit people of both countries.


At the conference, members of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Beijing Construction Engineering Group introduced the current situation of cooperation between two countries. Beijing Zhongnong Futong Horticulture Co., Ltd. introduced the progress of crop cooperation to Trinidad and Tobago. And the Coconut Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical and Agricultural Sciences made a brief introduction to its current situation and cooperation intention.


In addition, Hao Li advised to utilize the advantages of agronomy and biology disciplines to carry out cooperation in planting in adversity based on the platforms of the State Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology and State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Adaptation and Improvement. He suggested promoting edible fungi and soybeans accommodating the eating habits of people of Trinidad and Tobago with the help of the National R&D Center for Edible Fungus Processing Technology and the Henan Research Center for Engineering Technology of Leguminous Crop Symbiosis Nitrogen Fixation and Molecular Design Breeding.


Di Liu concluded that Henan Province attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Caribbean countries like Trinidad and Tobago, and had made extensive and in-depth exchanges under the support from both countries. He expressed his wish that both countries could promote practical cooperation under the "Belt and Road Initiative" to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
