Recently, the project of "Research, Development and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Green and Deep Processing of Wheat", led by Professor Jihong Huang, made an important breakthrough.
This project has constructed a database of information on the whole life cycle of wheat refining and processing, and discovered wheat functional activity factors and formed a theoretical system of high value-added wheat biotransformation. Most importantly, the demonstration line of the wheat processing has gone green and smart and obtained four firsts in Chinese wheat deep processing: i) the first national green wheat factory certification; ii) the first green product evaluation standard for wheat deep processing; iii) the first green factory evaluation standard for wheat deep processing; iv) and the first software for the whole life cycle evaluation of wheat deep processing products.
The implementation of the project has improved the going-green in wheat manufacturing technology from 66.40% to 93.28%, in manufacturing process from 50.07% to 91.05%, in the use of manufacturing resource and in the impact on environment from 97.22% down to 70.24%. In addition, the project allows the wheat industry chain to extend and improve, expectedly achieving a value-added of 20 times from wheat raw material to D-psicose. These achievements will make positive contributions to regional economic and social development, the integration of production, education and research and the development of Henan University.
Professor Jihong Huang is a Distinguished Professor of Henan University. Also, she is a Zhongyuan Scholar, doctoral supervisor, expert enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, and director of the Key Laboratory of Wheat Bioprocessing and Nutritional Functions in Henan Province.
