The General Office of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China has issued the Notice on the Announcement of National and Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Majors in 2021 (JGTH [2022] No. 14). According to the Notice, 13 majors of Henan University, namely Financial Mathematics, Russian, Human Geography and Urban and Rural Planning, were included in national first-class undergraduate majors; 16 majors, viz. Economic Statistics, International Economics and Trade, and Social Work were listed in Henan provincial first-class undergraduate majors. So far, there have been 82 undergraduate majors listed in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of first-class undergraduate majors, including 50 national first-class undergraduate majors and 32 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, which covers 89% of majors in Henan University.
The initiative of "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of first-class undergraduate majors was launched by the Ministry of Education in 2019 with an aim to revitalize undergraduate education by promoting the development of emerging engineering education, emerging medicine education, emerging agriculture education and emerging arts education. This revitalization is expected to expand China’s capacity to cultivate talented personnel in advanced majors of first-class universities, resulting in a progressing higher education.
This initiative has selected out a total of 11,761 national first-class undergraduate majors and 15,727 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors from 2019 to 2021
