The First International Symposium on Plant Electrophysiology and Ion Transport was held in Henan University on October 22. The symposium, sponsored by Henan University, was jointly organized by the State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Adaptation and Improvement, the State Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology, the School of Life Sciences and the School of Agricultural Sciences of Henan University. Vice president Yunchao KAN, along with the heads from the Department of Discipline Development, International Affairs Office, Institute of Science and Technology, School of Life Sciences and School of Agricultural Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Cotton Biology, and State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Adaptation and Improvement, attended the opening ceremony.
Yunchao KAN said that, at the symposium, experts and scholars from five countries would gather and discuss the research and development of plant electrophysiology and ion transport, and he hoped that through this symposium, we could discover the methods of combining the research fruits from plant electrophysiology and ion transport with the ones from crop stress adaptation, so that we could make a contribute to the national food security and the development of green agriculture.
The invitees were 14 experts and scholars in the fields of plant electrophysiology technology, non-invasive micro-test technology and electric potential on a plant surface, and ion transport, including scientists from the National Academy of Sciences of the United States and the Australian Academy of Science, also giving insightful reports. The symposium attracted great attention from scholars at home and abroad, with nearly 2,000 of them participating in it either online or onsite. About a number of foreign scholars, including Professor Matthew Gilliham from the University of Adelaide, and Edward E. Farmer from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, sent congratulations and spoke highly of the symposium.
