On May 22^nd, a series of drama plays were held in Minglun Campus of Henan University. Themed Flame, this event were composed of three sub activities: the Picture Exhibition of the Development of HENU’s Drama Major, the Opera Concert, and the Traditional Opera Integrity and Innovation Forum. Bangshan ZHENG, Director of Henan Provincial Department of Education, Shuxia FENG, vice president of HENU, Ling WANG, director of the Traditional Chinese Culture (Henan Opera) Inheritance Base, and other representatives participated in the activities.

Bangshan ZHENG said when watching the Picture Exhibition of the Development of HENU’s Drama Major, "HENU has got the only first-class discipline in Drama and Film Studies in Henan Province, and has trained a large number of outstanding drama talents. Generations of opera talents have dedicated themselves to the inheritance and innovation of traditional opera art, so as to help it to develop with the times.”

At the Flame Opera Concert, five winners of Chinese Drama Plum Awards, including Wenlong JIA, Hui WANG, Wenhua MIAO, Hongli WANG and Shumin CHEN, outstanding alumni and foreign students, were invited to perform at the concert. The concert had three chapters, namely "Treasure", "Pursuing" and "Beginner's Mind". Hongli WANG and her seven-year-old apprentice Chenxi MENG sang the excerpt of Henan Opera "Red Plum Under the Guillotine"; Daqi WANG, an associate professor of School of Music, sang the excerpt of Henan Opera "Chaoyang  Valley"; and Bianjing LIU, an Cameroonian student, sang the excerpt of Henan Opera "Ascending the Palace".

The Traditional Opera Integrity and Innovation Forum was held at The Small Aditorium. Ling WANG, Wenjian DONG, former chief inspector of Henan Provincial Department of Culture, Yuhong JIANG, Secretary General of Henan Provincial Dramatist Association, Jingcai YAN, former secondary inspector of Henan Provincial Department of Culture, Jincheng YAO, a national first-class scenarist, along with representatives from HENU and performance artists, attended the forum.

Experts at the meeting spoke highly of the solid foundation and achievements of drama research in HENU, and expressed constructive views on the training mode of opera talents in Colleges and universities, the integrity and innovation of opera art, etc.

Xiaoyu MAO said: “This academic activity has broadened the academic vision and the research field through opera performances and the academic forum. We should insist on the high quality development of Opera Education, and carry forward the art of traditional Chinese Opera.”
