On the morning of 14th June, a ceremony was held in the Quinoa Test Site of Muyi Farming Company, Ban Podian township for the official opening of the Quinoa Plantation, which is a branch of the Research Institute of Modern Agriculture and Biological Technology of Henan University and is located in Ban Podian Township, Xiang Fu District. Kan Yunchao, vice president of Henan University, Zhu Jiankang, director of Shanghai Plant Stress Biology Research Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhang Hui, vice chairman of Kaifeng Municipal Political Consultative Conference, along with some other Kaifeng municipal officials, heads and experts from Shanghai Plant Stress Biology Research Center and Henan University attended the ceremony. Zhao Dongbao, secretary of party committee of the School of Life Sciences of Henan University, together with Wang Yantao, the mayor of Xiang Fu District, unveiled the plaque to mark the success of the first and only Quinoa Test Site in Henan Province and a prelude to the later promotion of research findings and the stability and security of the industrial chain, which are the responsibilities of a quinoa research team of Henan University.
It was reported that the quinoa research program had been conducted since October of last year, and as the program was to reach an agreement on establishing the Quinoa Plantation for related scientific research. The outbreak of pandemic strongly affects the quinoa planting. In such situation, Dr. Zou Changsong and Dr. Guo Jingong, members of the quinoa research team from School of Life Sciences of Henan University, were seizing the opportunities for plantation and working on the experimental planting of quinoa according to the local conditions while strictly abiding by all of the anti-pandemic rules and regulations set by the central government and Henan University.
