HENU hosts the 2025 New Year Forum on Yellow River National Strategy

On the morning of January 5, the 2025 New Year Forum on Yellow River National Strategy took place at the auditorium of Minglun Campus. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Miao Changhong, Director of the Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development. Han Bing, a Second-level Inspector from the Department of Education of Henan Province, and Liu Yansui, the Academic Vice President of HENU, delivered their speeches respectively.


The theme of this forum is “Yellow River Civilization and Chinese Path to Modernization”, attracting over 100 experts and graduate students from Peking University, Shandong Normal University, Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology, and HENU to attend in person, alongside more than 6,000 participants joining via live stream.


Han Bing highlighted that the Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development has achieved significant accomplishments over the past two decades in academic research and policy advisory services. This forum aims to provide further academic support for ecological conservation, high-quality development, and cultural innovation in the Yellow River Basin.


Liu Yansui noted that the Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development has conducted a series of scientific research and think tank initiatives focused on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, yielding remarkable results. Moreover, he expressed hope that the institute would seize development opportunities, optimize innovation mechanisms, and contribute more to cultivating professional talent.


During the achievements release session, Associate Professor Zhao Hongbo, Deputy Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center on Yellow River Civilization, released the Research Report on High-Quality Development Index and Urban Human Settlement Index in the Yellow River Basin. Associate Professor Hou Weidong promoted and introduced the new book Research on the Archaeology of Capital of Shang Dynasty in Zhengzhou and Royal Domain Settlements, while Professor Tian Zhiguang presented the newly published Yellow River Culture (Seven Volumes). Wang Zhuohua, a specially appointed professor at HENU’s College of Chinese Language and Literature, promoted the photocopy edition of the Value of Japanese-Collected Yellow River Documents: Rare Yellow River Documents Collected in Japan (Volume 1).


During the keynote speech session, Zhao Pengjun from Peking University, Wang Chengxin from Shandong Normal University, as well as Zhao Jianji and Tian Zhiguang from HENU shared academic insights on topics such as “Strategies and Pathways for Integrated Development of Transportation and Industry in the Yellow River Basin” and “Measurement and Spatiotemporal Evolution of Ecological Civilization Construction in the Yellow River Basin”.


The New Year Forum on Yellow River National Strategy, now in its fourth consecutive year, serves as a prestigious academic platform for unveiling the latest annual research achievements from the Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development and fostering in-depth discussions among scholars in related fields. This forum not only highlighted HENU’s latest research achievements but also created a platform for academic exchange on key issues. Moreover, it fostered broad consensus on ecological conservation, high-quality development, cultural innovation in the Yellow River Basin, and the progress of Chinese modernization.
