HENU students win successive first prizes at the National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities


On November 30th, the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People’s Republic of China concluded in Hainan after nine days. The Henan delegation won a total of three first prizes, eight second prizes, and seven third prizes. Among them, Wushu College of HENU secured one first prize, one second prize, and two third prizes.


The competition featured both competitive and performance events across eighteen disciplines, including Huapao, Pearl Ball, Long Zhou and Swing. Performance categories were divided into athletic, skill-based and comprehensive types.


Wushu College’s Tai Chi team performed River Essence Tai Chi, winning a first prize in the comprehensive performance category, marking another consecutive win at the National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities. Locking received a second prize in the skill-based performance category. Wushu College faculty member Cao Shuai and undergraduate Li Huilin each won third prizes in men’s four-type boxing and Bokh wrestling. Liu Yi, representing the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, won a third prize in Southern Fist. Wushu College’s students and teachers watered their passion for martial arts with sweat, blended Shaolin martial arts’ robustness with Tai Chi’s fluidity and wrote legends on the field, bringing honor to Henan and shining the HENU’s brand of traditional sports of ethnic minorities.


The outstanding performance of Wushu College’s students and teachers is not only a reflection of individual athletes’ efforts and talents but also a testament to Henan’s commitment to the inheritance and development of ethnic minority sports culture. This event deepened sports exchanges between Henan and various ethnic regions, strengthening bonds among different ethnic groups.
