Dear Partner Universities in Europe and the United States,

In line with President Xi Jinping's initiatives to invite European and American youth to study in China and to enhance youth exchanges between China, the United States, France, and Europe, Henan University is launching the 2024 "Exploring the Yellow River Civilization" Study Camp for European and American Youth.

I. Objectives

The program invites European and American youth to the Central Plains of Henan, the birthplace of Chinese civilization, and to Henan University, one of China's earliest universities. Participants will gain a profound understanding of the Yellow River civilization's essence, the unique charm of Chinese history and culture, and Henan University's century-old educational journey while enhancing communication with Chinese faculty and students.

II. Theme

"Exploring the Yellow River Civilization, Discovering the Charm of China" - showcasing China's 5,000-year history and cultural context, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the unique allure of the Yellow River civilization.

III. Recruitment

40 international students (20 from the United States, 10 from France, and 10 from other European countries). Participants under 18 years old must provide written consent from their guardian.

IV. Training Format

Henan University is situated in Kaifeng, a renowned historical and cultural city in China that served as the capital of eight dynasties. The university is in close proximity to other famous ancient capitals, including Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Anyang. It maintains long-term cooperative relationships with renowned historical and cultural institutions such as the Shaolin Temple. The university has established the Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development Research Center, and boasts strengths and distinctive features in disciplines such as Chinese language, history, geography, cultural tourism, martial arts, fine arts, and music. With its strong faculty and abundant educational resources, Henan University will offer European and American students a rich, engaging, and profound exchange experience. The study camp will encompass a variety of formats, including lectures by renowned experts, cultural experiences, field visits, and discussion sessions, all seamlessly integrated and thoughtfully balanced. Furthermore, the program will prioritize fun and engagement, striking a balance between work and leisure. It will incorporate listening, learning, observing, speaking, and tasting, aiming to foster a genuine love for China among the visiting youth. Moreover, the program will emphasize interaction and exchange. By organizing discussion sessions between Chinese and international youth, it will foster mutual understanding and strengthen friendships between Chinese and foreign students.

VI. Expenses

1. International participants are responsible for their own round-trip airfare and travel expenses.

2. Henan University will cover the costs of courses, inter-city transportation, and accommodation for international participants during their stay in Henan Province.

3. Accompanying teachers from partner institutions, if any, will not be covered by this support program.

VII. Application Method

Please submit the completed "Application Form" (attached) to student_exchange@henu.edu.cn by June 15, 2024. The university will organize expert review and determine the funded projects and participants.
