On the afternoon of June 21, the first “AI4S Computing Empowerment Academic Seminar” convened at the Zhengzhou campus. Themed “Computing Empowerment: A New Chapter in Cross-Disciplinary Innovation,” the seminar focused on new directions and trends in the future development of AI for Science (AI4S). It invited experts and industry veterans to share the latest research findings, scientific insights, and innovative ideas, injecting new vitality into the development of fundamental disciplines such as chemistry and materials science. Xuebo Chen, Academic Vice President of Henan University, Hongbin Cao, Dean of the Carbon Neutrality Research Institute at Henan University, and Runhai Hui, President of Dawning Information Industry (Henan) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Sugon”), were among the attendees. Representatives from relevant colleges and faculty members participated in the seminar. Hosted by Henan University and organized by the School of Artificial Intelligence, College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, and Carbon Neutrality Research Institute at Henan University, with the co-organization of Dawning Information Industry (Henan) Co., Ltd., the seminar was chaired by Yang Lu, Executive Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence.
Xuebo Chen delivered a speech on behalf of HENU. He warmly welcomed the arrival of experts and scholars and provided an in-depth interpretation of “Computing Empowerment: A New Chapter in Cross-Disciplinary Innovation.” He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and exchanges across disciplines to explore the infinite possibilities of artificial intelligence in cross-disciplinary innovation, committing to the research and application of computing empowerment technologies in basic scientific fields, contributing to scientific research and industrial development.
Runhai Hui spoke on behalf of Sugon. He introduced Sugon’s strategic deployment in Henan and analyzed the development trend and future of domestic supercomputing, looking forward to working together with HENU to promote the construction of an AI4S computing empowerment ecosystem.
The conference featured six exciting academic presentations: Professor Hongbin Cao, a National Outstanding Youth, on “Construction of Chemical & Chemical Engineering Data Resources and Their Application in Industrial Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction”; Professor Linjiang Chen from the University of Science and Technology of China on “Research Intelligent Agents Assisting Machine Chemists in Exploring Physical Experiments”; Dr. Wudi Cao from Sugon on “Applications of Chemistry and Materials on Domestic Heterogeneous Platforms”; Dr. Yuhai Liu from Sugon on “Large Models and AI4S Applications Based on Domestic Heterogeneous Computing Power”; Dr. Yanfei Wang from Sugon on “Capability Building of Computing Power Network Platform Business”; and Dr. Lanyu Li, a Shuimu Scholar from Tsinghua University, on “Smart Management of Low-Carbon Chemical Industrial Parks.”
During the discussion session, experts and scholars engaged in intense discussions on how AI large models can empower the fields of chemistry and materials science and their cross-applications, offering many insightful opinions and suggestions.
This seminar focused on the cross-application of AI large models and intelligent computing power platforms in fields such as chemistry and materials science. It deeply explored how precise interventions of artificial intelligence technology could advance the intelligent research of basic sciences like chemistry and materials science. The aim is to accelerate interdisciplinary innovation through computing empowerment, support green technological development, and promote the construction of “double first-class” universities and exploration at the forefront of industry technology.
