On March 3, the Innovative Development Conference & Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the School of Chinese Language and Literature was held at Minglun Campus.
The Conference was attended by Keping Lu, secretary of the Party Committee of HENU, Zhen Tan, vice president of HENU, Pingyuan Chen, member of the Central Institute for Culture and History, Xiaohong Xia, professor of Peking University, Quanshu Wang, an alumnus of HENU and former chairman of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ben Liao, an alumnus of HENU and former vice chairman of the Chinese Writers Association of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Yuejin Liu, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a professor of HENU, Aihe Guan, former secretary of the Party Committee of HENU, and Liqun Wang, a teacher of HENU and a famous cultural scholar. Lijun Wang, an alumnus of HENU and dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Beijing Normal University, joined the Conference and delivered a speech online. In addition, leaders of departments and colleges of HENU, alumni of HENU from all walks of life, and representatives of teachers and students of the School of Chinese Language and Literature were invited to attend the Conference. The Conference was presided over by Hong Yu, an alumnus of HENU and a host of China Media Group, and Xiaohua Duan, a teacher of the School of Chinese Language and Literature.
At the Conference, Xinjun Wu, dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, said that the School should make innovative progress based on the development over the past century to establish a first-class talent training system in first-class disciplines. It should constantly explore new fields to promote high-quality development of the School.
Later, Quanshu Wang, Ben Liao, and Lijun Wang delivered speeches as alumni representatives. They expressed their congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, and expressed their gratitude to HENU for the effort in talent training. They gave sincere wishes for the future development of the School.
Pingyuan Chen talked about his deep friendship with HENU. He extended expectations and blessings for the future development of the School and encouraged teachers and students to work hard and create more significant achievements.
Yuejin Liu pointed out the vital role of teachers in cultural inheritance. He emphasized that the more important mission of teachers is to train more talents, and that scholars should take responsibility for producing knowledge in line with the characteristics of the times.
Aihe Guan reviewed the development of the School of Chinese Language and Literature and HENU, pointing out that the School has trained many talented personnel for the development of higher education in China over the past century. He said that the story of the next 100 years of the School is worth looking forward to.
Liqun Wang pointed out that, due to its diligence, perseverance and responsibility, the School of Chinese Language and Literature is the only department at HENU with a continuous development history. We should learn from the past and forge ahead.
Yongfen Xin, a teacher representative, and Yuchenwan Gu, a student representative, delivered speeches, respectively. Yongfen Xin said that the School had been upholding the concept of "combining Eastern and Western thoughts, being speculative and innovative, and committed to the spirit of diligence and dedication". Yuchenwan Gu promised that students would strictly abide by the School's motto of "studying extensively, reflecting carefully, practicing earnestly, and improving every day" to live up to the identity of HENU students.
Keping Lu fully affirmed the fruitful results achieved by all the teachers and students of the School, and expressed high hopes for the future development of the School. He hoped that the School would inherit the century-old development tradition and implement the fundamental task of cultivating students in virtue and knowledge. He promised that HENU would continue to support the construction and development of the School.
HENU also received attention and blessings from other colleges and universities on the 100th birthday of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, namely the Department of Chinese at Sun Yat-Sen University, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at East China Normal University, the College of Literature and Journalism at Sichuan University, the School of Chinese Language and Literature at Zhengzhou University, the Media College at Xinyang Normal University, the School of Liberal Arts at Zhoukou Normal University, the HENU Beijing Alumni Association, and the HENU Shandong Alumni Association. In addition, Guangju Sun, an alumnus of HENU and former dean of Henan Academy of Literature, and Ben Liao, an alumnus of HENU and former vice-chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, wished the School of Chinese Language and Literature a happy 100th birthday.
