The 4th International Academic Linguistics Seminar & the 85th International Distinguished Lecture are successfully held by School of Foreign Languages


   


On March 29, 2022, Dr. Vincent T. Greenier, a senior Lecturer in Linguistics & TESOL at the University of Aberdeen, U.K., delivered his first lecture to the teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages via Tencent Meeting. He is scheduled to give ten lectures about New Competencies for English Language Teachers: Innovative Skills for Changing Times. The first lecture entitled “Publishing in high-impact journals: What (most) editors are looking for” was hosted by Prof. Chaojun Yang, Dean of School of Foreign Languages. Over 200 postgraduates and faculty members attended the lecture with interest and excitement.


Dr.Vincent T. Greenier earned his B.A. at Eastern Michigan University, U.S.A in 2003 and his Ph.D. at University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2018. He has been an ESL/EFL teacher and teacher educator for nearly two decades and has lived and taught in several countries across four continents. His main research interests include creative approaches to language teaching and learning, leadership and professionalism in ELT, language teacher education, language teacher identity, and innovative approaches to qualitative research. His articles can be found in journals such as TESOL Quarterly, System, RELC, the Iranian Journal of Language Teaching Research, and others.


During the lecture, Dr. Vincent Greenier systematically discussed some of the lessons he had learned about publishing in the field of Applied Linguistics/TESOL and shared insights he had gathered from various international SSCI journal. And then, by focusing on a few key aspects of the different sections of a paper, Dr. Vincent Greenier offered some recommendations for improving your prospects of publishing in high impact journals, such as introduction, literature review, methodology, findings, and implications as well. The talk also presented his observations about what editors and reviewers were looking for and provided some considerations when designing, carrying out, and writing up the manuscripts.


In sum, all the audience were deeply moved by Dr. Vincent T. Greenier's passion for academics and profound knowledge, interacted with each other as well, and they all look forward to his next lecture.


Since its launch in 2019, our “International Distinguished Lectures” has successfully held 84 overseas high-end lectures, and an average of more than 10 internationally renowned experts and scholars have been invited to hold more than 25 academic lectures every year, involving English, Russian, Japanese, German, French and other languages. After the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, our School of Foreign Languages immediately updated the lectures’ delivering method, innovated its ways, continued to carry out online international academic activities, and continuously enhanced the influence of School of Foreign Languages, which has received good response. In 2022, our School of Foreign Languages will continue to strengthen its international work and hold more high-level distinguished international academic activities to welcome the 110th anniversary of Henan University with excellent results.
