Distinguished Alumnus Liu Fenrong Elected Member of Academia Europaea

According to a recent announcement on the official website of the European Academy of Sciences, Liu Fenrong, an alumnus of our university, Master of Logic (Class of 1998) from the School of Philosophy and Public Administration, and Professor at the Department of Philosophy, School of Humanities of Tsinghua University, has been elected a Member of Academia Europaea.

Liu Fenrong is Professor of Philosophy at the School of Humanities, Tsinghua University, Visiting Chair Professor at the University of Amsterdam, and Distinguished Professor under the Chang Jiang Scholars Program (2015) of the Ministry of Education. She is also a Fellow of the International Institute of Philosophy (IIP) and the Academy of International Philosophy of Science (AIPS). Currently, she serves as Director of the Joint Research Center for Logic between Tsinghua University and the University of Amsterdam. Her research covers dynamic preference logic, social subjectivity, philosophy of logic, and other related fields. In recent years, she has further extended her research to neuro-symbolic artificial intelligence. In particular, she has made pioneering achievements in logical reasoning for large language models. Her work has drawn widespread attention across the AI community at top academic conferences, including the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR).

Founded in 1988, the Academia Europaea serves as the European Union's de facto national academy and statutory scientific advisory body. It was jointly initiated by the Royal Society of the United Kingdom and national academies of sciences from France, Germany, and other European countries that represent the continent's highest academic caliber, with its headquarters located in London, UK. Its Fellows are distinguished international scholars covering 23 disciplines across four major divisions: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Life Sciences. This year, two Chinese scholars have been newly elected to its Philosophy Division for the first time, and Liu Fenrong is among them.
