Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry Prof. AKIRA Suzuki Visits HENU

 

From May 16th to 17th, Prof. AKIRA Suzuki, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010, was invited to visit and give lectures at Henan University. HENU president SONG Chunpeng and vice president LIU Xianxing met with Prof. AKIRA Suzuki.

SONG Chunpeng gave a warm welcome to Prof. AKIRA Suzuki, introducing the history of HENU, hoping that Prof. AKIRA Suzuki would give more guidance to Chemistry and related disciplines of HENU. They conducted in-depth exchanges on joint training of students, cooperation on teachers and scientific research and academic cooperation.

HENU experts and scholars in related fields had an academic discussion with Prof. AKIRA Suzuki. Sharing his own achievements in winning the Nobel Prize, Prof. AKIRA Suzuki encouraged them to do better in application oriented researches and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with international experts.

On May 17th, Prof. AKIRA Suzuki made a report entitled Cross-Coupling Reactions of Organoboranes: An Easy Way for Carbon-Carbon Bonding. In the interactive activities, young teachers and graduate students asked many questions, and Prof. AKIRA Suzuki answered them patiently. Students are encouraged by the face-to-face communication with the Nobel Prize winner.

Prof. AKIRA Suzuki, honorary professor of Hokkaido University in Japan who has been working on organic synthetic chemistry, jointly won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010 with others for contributing to the palladium catalyzed cross coupling reaction in organic synthesis.
