
Recently, The World Academy of Sciences announced its list of newly elected fellows for the year 2026. ZHANG Suojiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Henan University (HENU), was among those elected.
ZHANG Suojiang has long been dedicated to research in ionic liquids and green processes. He has overcome key scientific and technological challenges in the development and application of ionic liquids, achieving the industrial application of multiple original technologies and advancing the industrialization of ionic liquids. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015 and as a foreign fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2024.
He has published over 600 SCI-indexed papers in academic journals such as Nature, JACS, and AIChE J., which have been cited more than 58,000 times. His H index is 118, placing him among the top 0.05% of leading scientists globally. He has authored 12 Chinese and English academic books and received the Springer Nature’s 2023 “China New Development Award”. He holds more than 200 authorized Chinese invention patents and 11 international patents. His accolades include the Second Prize of the State Science and Technology Award, the Second Prize of the State Technological Invention Award, the TWAS Award in Chemistry, Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, and the Hou Debang Chemical Engineering Science and Technology Achievement Award.
A total of 63 new fellows were elected this year, spanning ten research fields including biological sciences, medical and health sciences, chemical sciences, and engineering sciences. The World Academy of Sciences currently comprises approximately 1,500 fellows worldwide, a distinguished group that includes outstanding scientists from various disciplines, academicians from national academies of multiple countries, and Nobel laureates.
