Hou Xun, born in 1936 in Shaanxi Province, is a famous optoelectronics expert. He has been engaged in the theoretical and technical research of photocathode, photoelectron technology and fast optoelectronic devices, which has an important influence in the field of Transient Optics and optoelectronics. In 1985, as the main contributor of "dynamic optical observation and measurement technology in modern national defense test", he won the national science and technology progress award. He is the "chief scientist" of China's "Eighth Five Year Plan(Eighth Five-Year Plan of China)" "Climbing Project": femtosecond laser technology and ultrafast process research, and one of the conveners of the expert committee of the Ninth Five Year Plan "pre selection project: Research on high field laser physics and femtosecond ultrafast process". Since 1986, he has won 2 second prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 third prizes, 1 third prize of National Invention Award, 3 first prizes and 4 second prizes of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 1 second prize and 1 third prize of Shaanxi Province Science and Technology Progress. Since 1986, he has published more than 190 papers in important journals and academic conferences at home and abroad. He has made special reports at the 18th and 23rd International High Speed Photography Conference and the first Tnternational High Speed Photography Conference in Japan. He initiated and organized the construction of "State Key Laboratory of Transient Optical Technology", which has made important contributions to China's research on transient optical technology catching up with and surpassing the world's advanced level. In 1984, he was awarded the title of "young and middle-aged expert with outstanding national contributions", the title of "national advanced worker" in 1989, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991, the first prize of Guanghua Science and Technology Fund in 1996, and Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award in 1999.
