On the morning of September 9th, the Innovation in Medicine Lecture Series was held at Huaihe Hospital of HENU. This session featured a lecture by Professor Li Xinmin, a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta, on the topic of Mental Health in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Cui Daxiang, Academic Vice President of HENU and Dean of the Medical School, attended the meeting, along with Li Qiuye, Deputy Director of International Affairs Office, and other members of the Medical School’s leadership team. Nearly 500 participants joined the lecture both online and offline. The event was chaired by Wang Ying,Deputy Party Secretary of the Medical School.
Professor Li Xinmin specializes in the fields of psychiatry and neuropharmacology, having published nearly 200 papers and holds four invention patents. In this lecture, he analyzed the current state of psychiatric development in China and the application and development of artificial intelligence in the field of mental health. He stated that with the rapid advancement of technology, AI exhibits significant advantages in psychological health assessment, diagnosis and treatment, which helps to improve the service level of mental health care.
Before the lecture began, Professor Li Xinmin engaged in a discussion with the attendees on the internationalization of medical education. He expressed his hope that the two prestigious century-old institutions could deepen collaboration in medical talent cultivation, academic exchanges, and scientific research, aiming to train more individuals with an international perspective and jointly promote the development of medical education at both universities.
Cui Daxiang pointed out that the Medical School should proactively align with the needs of the country’s major strategies and explore the trend of high-quality development in medical disciplines. He expressed his hope to actively promote the establishment of joint student training programs and international collaborative research projects by further deepening cooperation with the University of Alberta, thereby serving the construction of world-class universities and talent cultivation for both sides.
