From June 18 to 22, the Inaugural Asian University Wushu Championship was held in Harbin. The event was organized by the Asian University Sports Federation, supported by the Wushu Federation of Asia, and hosted by the China Student Sports Federation. Nearly 400 athletes from universities across 12 Asian countries and regions participated in a competition for 26 gold medals in taolu routine events, 6 gold medals in Sanda events, and 32 gold medals in long and short weapons events.
The 12 HENU athletes who participated in competition are all champions from the 2024 Chinese University Wushu Sanda and Long and Short Weapons Championships. Under the leadership of Hao Hong, the dean of Wushu College, and coach Yijie Fan, they represented China at this grand event. After intense competition, they achieved an outstanding result with 8 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals, creating a new history for Henan University on the stage of Asian university sports competition. In the Sanda events, Shiqi Chu won the women’s 56kg category; in the long weapons events, Qixiang Ma, Mingzi Yan, Yiqi Luo, Xu Huang, and Xianggefei Chai respectively won the men’s 84kg+ category, women’s 55kg category, women’s 64kg category, women’s 69kg category, and women’s 74kg category; in the short weapons events, Chen Qingwei and Song Ruofei respectively won the men’s 72kg category and women’s 55kg category.
In this competition, the HENU team fully demonstrated a spirit of perseverance and overcoming challenges, receiving high praise and unanimous recognition from the organizing committee.
