HENU holds 2024 English Culture Festival Award Ceremony


The final round of the 20th HENU English Speech Contest (Non-English Majors) and the award ceremony for the 2024 HENU English Culture Festival were held on May 30th at the Jinming Campus. Vice President Yuchen Miao of HENU, along with leaders from relevant departments and schools, attended the ceremony and presented awards to the winners.


Yuchen Miao extended his warm congratulations to the award recipients during his speech at the ceremony. He expressed his strong appreciation for the achievements of the HENU English Culture Festival and encouraged students to excel in their English language studies, continuously pursue knowledge, and develop into well-rounded individuals with both a deep love for their country and a global perspective. He urged them to embrace the spirit of “Confidence, Striving, Openness, and Innovation” – the new HENU spirit – and to utilize their wisdom and courage to write even more glorious chapters in the university’s history.


The final round of the English Speech Contest (Non-English Majors) spanned over three months, culminating in a competition among 19 finalists. Centered around the theme “The Chinese dragon is good and it means good, good to all”, the contestants delivered compelling speeches, articulating their profound understanding and unique perspectives on the topic with fluency and eloquence. Their captivating performances drew rounds of applause from both the judges and the audience. After intense competition, three contestants emerged victorious, securing first-place honors, while six contestants were awarded second place and ten contestants received third place.


This year’s “HENU English Short Video Competition”, themed “Digital China”, encouraged students to showcase advancements in technology and digital development from their unique perspectives. The competition highlighted achievements and innovations in various aspects of digitalization, such as smart living and digital agriculture, effectively narrating the story of China’s digital transformation. After multiple rounds of selection, five teams were awarded first prize, and ten teams received second prize.


Seven units, including the Henan Medical School, the International Business School, and the School of Software, were honored with the “2024 Henan University English Culture Festival Outstanding Organization Award”.


The HENU English Culture Festival, a series of events, is a significant and distinctive campus cultural brand for the university. It encompasses a range of competitions, including the National College Students English Contest, the HENU English Speech Contest, and the HENU English Short Video Competition. These events provide students and faculty with a diverse platform for extracurricular English language learning, effectively enhancing students’ practical English skills.
