On the afternoon of December 11, 2020, Prof. Timothy Teo from the Murdoch University in Australia was invited to give an online lecture entitled “Publishing in Competitive Journals: What, Why and How” via VooV Meeting. Timothy Teo (Ph.D.) is Professor of Education at Murdoch University (Australia). Nearly 200 teachers and students from the School of Foreign Languages attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Dr. Yu Lin.
Dean and Prof. Yang Chaojun, on behalf of the college, expressed the sincere gratitude to Prof. Timothy Teo for taking the invitation, and briefly introduced his research field and academic achievements. At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Teo analyzed many characteristics of Competitive Journals, such as higher quality assurance, larger submission base, and longer review process. Prof. Teo pointed out that successfully published papers in Competitive Journals can prove the author's research ability and academic level, and helped him/her gain wider recognition. He emphasized that a paper to be accepted by a Competitive Journal needs to have concise language expression, rigorous research design, and comprehensive literature review. In addition, Prof. Teo selected a submitted paper to introduce the review process in detail to the participants. Generally speaking, it may take one to three years from the submission to the actual publication. Finally, with regard to the improvement of essay writing, he also give some practical suggestions, such as regulating writing content, learning writing process and updating knowledge and skills.
After the lecture, Prof. Teo patiently answered the questions that the participants were concerned about, and shared his thoughts on how to judge whether an article meets the journal's acceptance standards. Professor Teo’s lecture was very useful for the people who want to publish an article on the Competitive Journals.
